Founder & CEO@Local Alike
Somsak BoonKam, was born and raised in rural Thailand where he developed a deep appreciation for the ingenuity of rural cultures – He was even more fascinated by the role of sustainable livelihood. He has a Bachelor’s in Petrochemicals and Polymeric Materials Engineering and has completed an MBA Francisco.
Before starting Local Alike, he has worked in a variety of dynamic and cross-cultural environments. He was working as an Engineer for a German manufacturing company for three years until he had saved enough money to travel around Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and India where he saw lots of problems. He had an epiphany one day when he saw burglars along the streets of India.
He questioned himself, “could I do something better to change this inequality and lack of economic opportunity?”
From then on out, he decided to further his studies in Sustainability Management and come back to Thailand with a whole new perspective on social entrepreneurship. He started his new career path with a local nonprofit called “Mae Fah Laung Foundation under Royal Patronage.” His stint there allowed him ample opportunities to work closely with locals; He was able to build a skill set there which he wouldn’t have been able to elsewhere.
His goal is to expose and share the wisdom of indigenous people to the mass market, in return he want to help develop sustainable products and services that have a positive impact on the society.
