TOURS ARRANGED BY KHIRI TRAVEL THAILAND

(1) Early Morning Discovery Walking Tour in Bangkok
**transfer from hotel to starting point is not included (+THB 1,200 per way for private Camry with chauffeur)**

Visitors often see Bangkok as an enormous modern metropolis, full of expressways, massive department stores and skyscrapers, but there is an other (more hidden) side which clearly shows the origins of a people who still believe in traditions from years gone by. This morning you will be picked up by your guide at 06.30 to go on a special walking tour to explore hidden Bangkok.

We start at the famous Giant Swing (Sao Chingcha), originally used for Brahmanic ceremonies. In this neighborhood you will also see many shops selling large Buddha images and related religious products. From the Swing we walk to the Corrections Museum which was once the site of the Bangkok Remand Prison, an old and overcrowded penal facility located in the heart of Bangkok. In 1990 it was turned into a public park called Rommani Nart. Just across is Wat Suthat Thepwararam, a 200+ years old temple known for its unusual ‘farang’ statues. Afterwards we wander through small alleys, encounter wooden houses, guardian spirit signs, fresh markets (Along Soi Thesa), old communities (Phraeng Phuton) and more. At the city pillar you will learn more about Buddhism and local beliefs ancient superstitions. Thai cities always house a pillar to host the guardian spirit or deity of the city!

THB 650 per person (min. 2 pax)
(Entrance fees, English speaking guide, snacks and water included. Operates 06.30am-10.30am)

(2) Evening Cycling Tour in Bangkok
**transfer from hotel to starting point is not included (+THB 1,200 per way for private Camry with chauffeur)**

After a short briefing there we will start our bike ride. You ride on the pavement of Rachadamnoen Avenue to Thammasat University. By local ferry we cross the Chao Phraya, the River of Kings, to the Thonburi side of Bangkok. Through back roads and alleys we continue cycling to Wat Arun, the temple of dawn. By now it is dark and the temple will be brilliantly illuminated. We stop here for a while enjoying the peace and surroundings, quite likely we will be the only ones here! From Wat Arun we will proceed to Wat Rakang. We cycle along the river and pass the old Portuguese Santa Cruz church and one of the oldest Chinese temples of Bangkok. We cross the river to the Pak Klong Talat flower market which at this time of day is at its most active and colorful. We park our bikes and stroll for a while taking in the spectacle of this wonderful market. Onwards we pedal to Wat Po which is at this time of day virtually deserted. The stupas are beautifully illuminated and we enjoy this temple in the cool evening air. Finally we cycle back to our starting point via Sanam Luang and the local evening markets, but beware of pedestrians though! After saying goodbye to our bike guide you return to your hotel on own.

THB 1,125 per person (join-in)
(Entrance fees, English speaking guide, bicycle, helmet, snacks and water included. Operates 18.00pm-22.00pm)

(3) Cultural Immersion in the Outskirts of Bangkok

Pick up from your hotel early this morning (06.30) and transfer to Wongwian Yai Railway Station, located on the other bank of the Chao Phraya River. At the station, experience a sudden sense of nostalgia; wooden shop houses, old-fashion barbershops and tasty fresh fruits stall stand just along the railway. You will then board the local train to reach the other of the line, Mahachai Station. On arrival, explore the fresh market before hoping on a public ferry to cross the river.

Hop on the car again and reach the train market of Samut Songkhram (40km, about 30min drive). We walk on the railway while looking around because all stalls are lining along a 100-metre portion of track between Mae Klong and Ban Laem train stations. Whenever trains are running past, vendors will quickly fold their parasols (including sunshade canvas) and move away any containers placed too close to the tracks!

Then, time for some fun! Transfer by minivan to Nakhon Pathom (60kms, about 1h drive) where you will be welcome by Aoy, your local guest for today! Aoy is a passionate food lover who fully commits herself to every task at hand especially when it comes to preparing authentic and beautifully presented Thai dishes. Aoy lived abroad for 10 years and now works in the tourism industry. Since returning to Thailand, she has dedicated herself to teaching Thai cooking to foreigners and opening a restaurant in her home. Aoy lives on a lush, beautiful property on the banks of the Tha Chin River and uses fresh herbs and produce grown in the local community in her cooking.

You will first board a local boat and head to the authentic market of Don Wai where we will select the ingredients for today’s class. The market is known for its wide variety of vegetables and Thai snacks. As you shop together, Aoy will show you regional fruit and vegetables at her preferred vendors in the market. After learning about the local produce and farming community you will board a boat that Aoy steers herself. Enjoy the river breeze and passing views of local homes and lush river vegetation during your 30 min boat ride to Aoy’s tropical riverside home.

After your boat ride, you will be greeted with a welcome drink in the calm of Aoy’s garden oasis. You will then join Aoy in her professional kitchen studio for your cooking class. In this hands-on cooking lesson you will learn to prepare from scratch two of Aoy’s favorite Thai dishes. Aoy will share her deep knowledge of Thai herbs and spices and passion for cooking as you cook together in her studio kitchen that is also used by her other cooks for the restaurant she runs from her home. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and chop vegetables, pound spices, and laugh as you cook together with this charming and fun-loving host!

Transfer back to Bangkok with an expected arrival time at your hotel around 16.00.

THB 4,900 per person (min. 2 pax)
(Entrance fees, English speaking guide, private driver, boat ride, lunch, snacks and water included. Operates 07.00am-16.00pm)
